Art*o*mat® is a retired cigarette vending machine that has been converted to VEND ART! With over 85 active machines in the US and UK, BKB & Company is the first gallery to host one in Washington. Art*o*mat is the brainchild of Clark Whittington (pictured), who converted an outlawed cigarette vending machine in 1997 to sell his photos wrapped in cellophane boxes as part of a one-man show. Since then, Whittington and over 400 other "Artists in Cellophane" form 17 countries create work to sell in the machines. For a $5 token you can become a collector of works including paintings, sculpture, jewelry, glass, and more -all the size of a pack of cigarettes!
